I am a neurologist that focuses on neuromuscular disease such as ALS and other motor neuron diseases. I am currently working on maximizing the multidisciplinary clinic approach for patients with ALS at UC San Diego. I am also involved in the various clinical trials for ALS that UC San Diego provides. The ability to support patients through the various challenges that manifest as a result of ALS is what most excites me about my work.

I am primarily working on gene silencing trials for familial ALS patients. It excites me to work in such a collegial environment providing not only clinical care, but also research options for patients with neuromuscular diseases.

I am a board-certified Neuromuscular specialist. My clinical and research interests center on advancing the use of neuromuscular ultrasound, particularly in its applications to ALS and peripheral nerve disorders. I am especially interested in leveraging ultrasound as a biomarker to improve diagnosis, disease monitoring, and to enhance the efficiency and precision of clinical trials at UCSD. As Director of the EMG and Neuromuscular Ultrasound Laboratory and Co-Director of the Peripheral Nerve Center, I value working within a highly collegial, multidisciplinary environment that fosters collaboration, and high-quality patient care. What excites me most about working with patients is developing longitudinal relationships grounded in evidence-based medicine, while continually striving to optimize their quality of life and preserve independence.
